Mesa's Economic Engine

Importance for Mesa

Mesa Proving Grounds and the Gateway area are understood by DMB as well as City and regional leaders, to be one of the most significant properties remaining to be developed in the Mesa area.

President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) Barry Broome said of the area, "It is one of the most important and strategic growth areas for the future economic and community development of the City of Mesa, the East Valley and the State of Arizona. Comprising the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, ASU Polytechnic campus and the 3,200-acre Mesa Proving Grounds, the Gateway area will be a catalyst for Mesa's future as a thriving 21st century Desert Urban city, rich in sustainable commerce, industry and professional business ventures complemented by high-quality education, entertainment, lifestyle and residential developments. With visionary planning, the Gateway area is uniquely positioned to become part of the global economic phenomenon wherein airport cities serve as the center of business in fast-moving, globally networked economies."

DMB Approach

DMB recognizes the importance of Mesa Proving Grounds and the Gateway area to the future of Mesa and the entire region, and the resulting responsibility to develop a carefully conceived land plan. As part of the planning and entitlement process, DMB conducted an extensive community outreach program with the goal of soliciting community opinions and priorities.

City leaders, residents, and businesses have been and will continue to be involved and informed throughout the planning process.
